Advertising Summary: The Department of Occupational Therapy is seeking to hire 1 research technician for the Sensorimotor Performance and Rehabilitation Engineering (SPRE) Lab.  The SPRE lab is located in the Department of Occupational Therapy (CHP Building Rm 5011). The SPRE lab studies sensorimotor integration during development, and studies the effect of sensory processing deficits on motor development.

Department Summary: The Department of Occupational Therapy has a long and distinguished history of building the next generation of occupational therapists and leaders with a passion to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life for individuals and communities. We have been providing occupational therapy education since 1942, one of only 8 schools in the country at that time. We are currently ranked 14th in the country and have been ranked in the top 20 for over 20 years.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the production of custom lab supplies (training will be provided).
  • Assist with research: setup equipment for research, assist with data collection.
  • Perform data management tasks: maintain subject database, video data processing, organize research data.
  • Perform lab maintenance tasks: manage and respond to project-related correspondence, routine laboratory maintenance (such as organizing lab equipment, maintaining inventory of lab supplies), routine clerical and administrative duties as instructed, attend lab meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Occasional weekend hours required
  • Previous experience working in a research lab or similar setting
  • Comfortable with computers and analytical software (software used in the lab include but not limited to: Excel, MATLAB, Datavyu, SPSS)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Experience working with children and/or children with special needs
  • Dependable, reliable, organized, flexible, excited about learning new things
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU.

Salary Range: $18/hr+ (commensurate with experience)
