Searching for jobs

If you no longer see the job opening you had looked at previously, the application may have closed or been removed from the site. You can sign up for Job Alerts to stay updated on similar openings in the future. If you already applied for the job, you can check your application status by revisiting the application.

To search for job openings to apply for, use the Search Jobs button at the top right of the page. To apply for a job, click the Apply Now button on the posting page, then follow the directions. Returning users can log in to review the status of an existing application through the applicant portal.

Sign up for Job Alerts by completing the form fields listed. You will then begin to receive email notifications about posted jobs that meet your criteria.

You can log in to your applicant account by selecting Applicant Login near the top right corner of the window. After successfully signing in, you will be able to see your current and past applications to jobs at VCU (for applications submitted September 24, 2025 and forward).

Application process

VCU primarily accepts online applications through our career site, VCU Jobs. Before applying for a job at VCU, we recommend that you prepare your application materials including an updated resume and a cover letter tailored to the specific job you are applying for. Follow all instructions and answer all questions listed on the application.

The system times out after 60 minutes of inactivity for your security. We recommend saving your application progress frequently so you do not lose your progress. Once you log back into the system, you can pick up where you left off from the last time you saved your application.

After you submit your application, you will receive a notification confirming that it has been received. You can view the status of your application at any time by logging in to the applicant portal and accessing your application. You will also receive email notifications at key points in the recruitment process.

Interview process

No, interviews are typically offered only to candidates whose skills and qualifications meet or exceed the required and/or preferred qualifications listed on the job posting. 

The duration and scope of each interview will vary based on type of job and position, the hiring manager, and the level of the role. Some departments may do phone interviews first, while others may invite the finalists in for a face-to-face interview. Some departments use panel interviews or search committees, while other departments may interview individually.

After receiving an offer

After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. They will also be required to pass a background check depending on the type of position. Some positions will also require a verification of credentials.

VCU provides a Dual Career program for the spouses of individuals who are relocating to accept a position at VCU.
