All three teams have a Senior Manager or Assistant Director and report to the Director of Administrative Systems. The teams collaborate constantly to implement solutions, achieve goals, and solve problems.

This position is part of the Systems Analysts team internally called "Infrastructure." Professional, courteous interaction with vendors and stakeholders occurs daily to work on projects, implement cutovers, and troubleshoot issues. The team members employ continuous process documentation, process reengineering, technical training, and participate in rotating weekend minimal on-call coverage.

Department Summary: Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Technology Services is a central IT organization supporting the academic, research, and administrative missions of the university. Technology Services provides scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions to all VCU units.

The teams collaborate constantly to implement solutions, achieve goals, and solve problems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

VCU Administrative Systems supports the university ERP (Enterprise Resource System), Banner, which at a high-level includes Finance, HR, and Student transactions and integrations with other systems and business intelligence systems. Administrative Systems contains three teams: I.T. Developers, Business Intelligence Analysts, and Systems Analysts. All three teams have a Senior Manager or Assistant Director and report to the Director of Administrative Systems. The teams collaborate constantly to implement solutions, achieve goals, and solve problems. 

This position is part of the Systems Analysts team internally called "Infrastructure." Professional, courteous interaction with vendors and stakeholders occurs daily to work on projects, implement cutovers, and troubleshoot issues. The team members employ continuous process documentation, process reengineering, technical training, and participate in rotating weekend minimal on-call coverage. 

The Infrastructure team is cross-trained in shared responsibilities including but not limited to: Code and application deployment, Unix administration and shell scripting, file transfer process development, application and server security, database security and development, integrated applications and APIs, business Intelligence tools and environments, application upgrade planning, and change management.

Senior Systems Analysts in Administrative Systems-Infrastructure have more technical experience in systems, databases, networking, project management, and data analytics tools in use by Administrative Systems. Senior Systems Analysts are distinguished by the complexity of assigned work, including the ability to identify options and develop solutions for unique or unprecedented situations.  They are resources for others, participating in mentoring, coaching, and training. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent demonstrated experience in related work. 
  • Demonstrated experience in Unix OS navigation and commands, shell scripting, and application installations and troubleshooting. 
  • Knowledge of code repositories, application servers (Tomcat), web servers (Apache), Unix administration, and database administration and concepts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems analysis, parsing system and application logs, and ability to define and develop solutions to meet user requirements and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal; ability to maintain positive attitude and work well within the IT community and its operational clients. 
  • Willingness to continue career development, including ongoing training on new technologies as needed to support an evolving ERP system. 
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with command line Oracle SQL via SQLPlus and understanding of Oracle database objects and structures.
  • Knowledge of enterprise network architecture. Knowledge of common technology security structures. 
  • Experience supporting an ERP environment.  
  • Experience working for a Higher Education institution.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Apps, and TOAD or SQLDeveloper.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge of different technical areas and systems to achieve desired results.

Salary Range: $60,200 - $108,600
