Duties & Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant will support Dr. Seung Lee’s laboratory by contributing to translational and bench-based research projects, as well as product innovation and continued development efforts. This position is ideal for an individual seeking hands-on experience across the full research continuum—from basic science experimentation to applied product development and innovation. The Research Assistant will work closely with Dr. Lee and other lab members to advance ongoing studies, generate high-quality data, and support the translation of discoveries toward practical applications.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in biology, biomedical sciences, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prior laboratory experience (academic, clinical, or industry).
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and work independently with appropriate supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with translational research or applied biomedical projects.
  • Familiarity with product development, prototyping, or innovation-focused research.
  • Experience with data analysis tools, imaging software, or basic statistical methods.
  • Interest in commercialization, medical devices, therapeutics, or diagnostics.

 

Salary Range: 17.00/Hour

FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
