The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Department at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar invites applications for adjunct faculty positions on a rolling basis. We seek dynamic, student-centered educators to teach undergraduate courses in support of the university’s general education curriculum and interdisciplinary learning environment.

Adjunct faculty may be considered for courses in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Writing and Rhetoric
  • Humanities
  • Social/Behavioral Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Academic Skills and First-Year Programs

Appointments are part-time and dependent on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in assigned discipline(s) in accordance with university standards and course learning outcomes.
  • Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and provide timely feedback on coursework.
  • Foster an engaging, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for international students from all backgrounds.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using university systems.
  • Adhere to departmental and university policies and procedures.
  • Participate in meetings or training sessions as requested by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the relevant discipline or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level or relevant professional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Eligibility to work in Qatar or meet specific immigration/employment requirements under Qatari law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (PhD, MFA, or equivalent) in the relevant field.
  • Experience teaching in interdisciplinary or general education programs.
  • Experience teaching in international or multicultural higher education environments.
  • Evidence of innovative or student-centered teaching practices.
