Duties & Responsibilities:

The Subaward Coordinator is responsible for the following duties:
Processing subawards/subcontracts to external entities on behalf of the VCU for funds received from a variety of sources (public, non-profit, and industry) and for a variety of project types (research, service, clinical trials, outreach, etc);
Advising and assisting faculty and staff in all areas of the subawarding process; work closely with key stakeholder groups in setting priorities and streamlining processes;
Preparing subaward/subcontracts to external entities including gathering all relevant information from the principal investigator and the subrecipient; reviewing terms and conditions of the prime award to ensure subaward language is appropriate; developing, reviewing, negotiating, and issuing subawards/amendments;
Coordinating compliance issues and analyzing internal and external regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines with subsequent recommendations to senior staff to achieve compliance;
Managing the subrecipient process and data in RAMS-SPOT (Research Administration Management System – Sponsored Programs Online Tracking); documenting encumbrances within the financial management system (Banner); and maintaining subaward project files.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 2+ years of related experience 
Possess strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills 
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, while providing excellent customer service to a diverse population 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 5+ years of progressive work experience in research administration preferred, including contract/subcontract negotiation
Working knowledge of academic research operations and generally accepted business practices
Experience working in RAMS-SPOT or a comparable research administration system
Strong knowledge of federal regulations including but not limited to Uniform Guidance and the Federal Acquisition Regulations
Experience with clinical trials and the compliance requirements associated with them

Salary Range: 58,000 - 65,000
