Duties & Responsibilities:

VCU School of Nursing is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to support the collection of qualitative research data through virtual interviews with patients, family members, and healthcare providers testing a new genetic communication tool. The role will also support qualitative analysis of interview transcripts and field notes and preparation of reports and manuscripts. Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in qualitative interviews and qualitative analysis
  • Virtually attend scheduled participant interviews
  • Follow interview guide during interviews
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as needed during interviews
  • Debrief after interviews
  • Participate in qualitative coding
  • Follow IRB approved protocols and procedures

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate student in nursing or a related health discipline
  • Prior research assistant experience, or clinical experience in genetic counseling, or equivalent education, training and experience
  • Experience in telehealth using Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience assisting with qualitative research or interview-based studies
  • CITI Training in Biomedical or Social Sciences
