Mission of SON:

The mission of the School of Nursing is to shape the future of nursing through the power of education, discovery, and collaboration. 

Position Responsibilities:   

The School of Nursing is seeking a candidate with research experience to serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator for studies led by Dr. Lana Sargent. The Clinical Research Coordinator will assist with managing the day-to-day operations of studies focused on implementation of a new 4Ms MIND workflow and understanding the outcomes of this workflow. Major duties for this position are described below in the following categories: (1) Research Coordination, protocol implementation & data collection; (2) Research Communication; (3) Other Duties as Assigned.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Lead efforts and conduct data collection at study visits (including clinical assessments); this will include days, i.e., days/times that are most convenient for participants
  • Engage in effective recruitment campaigns and community outreach efforts, including regular communication with the study’s community partners
  • Maintain effective communication with research participants when engaging in participant recruitment, enrollment, tracking, retention, and data collection/ checking, including ensuring full and continuous informed consent
  • Maintain current CITI credentials for Human Subjects Protections, Good Clinical Practice, and other certifications as required
  • Support the research activities and team with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent applicable combination of training, education and experience.
  • Experience in clinical research
  • Strong organization, time management, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with an interprofessional team and all contacts necessary to effectively support a research study
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work requirements and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, seeking guidance from Principal Investigators and study team staff as needed
  • Reliable transportation to enable travel to community-based study visits and other relevant meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member of VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Active license as a Registered Nurse in Virginia
  • Prior experience with electronic research databases (e.g., REDCap) and IRB system
  • Experience working with underserved populations and in communities

 

This is a restricted position, and continued employment is dependent on availability of funding.
