Duties & Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision, the Hourly Clinical Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Principal Investigator and clinical research coordinators with administrative, regulatory, and data management tasks as assigned.

Key responsibilities may include: chart review, research participant identification, research visit coordination, research visit preparation, data management, and maintaining source documents and participant files according to Good Clinical Practice. The clinical research assistant may assist with preparing and shipping medical samples/specimens to/from appropriate labs and providing administrative support to study activation processes and regulatory maintenance of assigned studies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assigned aspects of candidate enrollment and subject data management for clinical research trials and studies
  • Chart review, study participant identification, visit preparation, case report form completion, database use & management, data abstraction & organization
  • Utilizes multiple data capture/retrieval systems & interacts with variety of health care delivery systems to identify, track, evaluate, collate, analyze & submit subject data
  • Collaborates closely with clinical research team, which may include Principal Investigator (PI) or clinical research coordinators, to ensure that key federal/state/local regulatory requirements are followed; that institutional operational research objectives are met; and those ethical obligations are met.
  • Develops, establishes and maintains productive relationships with VCU colleagues, all customers and contacts at affiliate sites to achieve essential research outcomes

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong independent judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound discretionary decisions
  • Ability to effectively multitask, prioritize responsibilities and work independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while adapting to changing client needs, regulations and workplace priorities
  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Advanced proficiency in multiple computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, spreadsheet management, PDF creation and management, online database maintenance, internet research, network and file management, and custom report generation
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience in health research and/or healthcare-related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of training & experience.

Salary Range: $15.91 - $20.00
