Duties & Responsibilities:
The VCU Trauma Center's s Injury and Violence Prevention Program (IVPP) Associate Director (AD) works directly under IVPP Director in managing daily operations and staff within IVPP and contributes to strategic planning and policy development. The AD works closely with the IVPP director and the VCU trauma center program director to achieve the mission and goals of IVPP to reduce and prevent injuries through ongoing educational research and community outreach at the local, state, national and international level.
Key responsibilities include IVPP administration and development leading IVPP teams and operational management through budget oversight planning the use of resources and personnel developing policies and setting long term goals and reporting on IVPP progress. This position will oversee all content areas to include community violence, sexual and intimate partner violence, substance use, risky decision making, older adult falls prevention, and additional areas of injury prevention as evidenced by hospital and community data.
This position will provide direct supervision of the IVPP management teams and indirect supervision of other case management advocacy and programmatic staff. Furthermore, it will assist with coordination, design and implementation of all IVPP activities in collaboration with the research arm of IVPP. This position requires strong leadership strategic thinking and communication skills.
Typical Duties
- Directly supervise the IVPP management team to include the IVPP Programs Coordinator, program managers to include Bridging the Gap (community violence programs), Project Empower (intimate partner violence programs), GR-ACY (alcohol and substance use court diversion program), IMPACT (High School-youth injury prevention program), Falls Prevention program, Technical and Training Assistance, and other content managers as developed.
- Provide oversight of all IVPP team members through indirect supervision of approximately 25 + service staff
- Leads and assists with development and implementation of long and short-term goals for INPP programs and assure compliance and accountability for managers and their teams, critically assessing performance and identifying areas of improvement.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations, implementing strategies, and ensuring the teams achieves their goals.
- Lead, mentor, and develop staff, including senior-level staff, and foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Managing overall IVPP budgets, and each program budget within IVPP. Actively work on sustainability plan for programs and staff.
- Research and identify new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects. Responsible for data, grants management and other reporting including government, corporate, foundations and other funders.
- Generates proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations.
- Assure timely submission of well researched, well written and well documented grant/fundraising proposals.
- Works with research and evaluation team to monitor and assess performance of IVPP programs in relation to stated program objectives.
- Serves as the main point of contact for IVPP for internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve as point of contact to participating hospitals and funder for technical assistance related to IVPP. Collaborates with existing local, state and national organizations in the injury prevention field.
- Identify community organizations that serve victims of all injury and violence and collaborate with these organizations through interagency agreements joint service planning and participation in organizations meetings.
- Attend injury prevention conferences/ meetings and the local, state, national and international levels. Participate in training and professional education related to injury prevention.
- Responsible for IVPP annual report.
- Responsible for injury prevention activity report for VCU Trauma Center state designation and American College of Surgery (ACS) verification site visit.
- Responsible for IVPP representation and reporting at VCU Trauma Center's Patient Care Committee Work closely with VCU Trauma Center program director for progress and alignment with Trauma Center in hospital and outreach activities and State/ACS requirements.
- Regular meeting with IVPP director for report on progress and alignment with IVPP mission and goals.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Master's Degree in a health-related profession with a public health related focus strongly preferred
- At least 3 years' experience in leading, developing hospital-community based injury and violence intervention and prevention programs.
- At least 1 year experience in developing, implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of hospital and community benefit programs to include surveillance, identification, intervention, measurement and evaluation
- Proficiency in developing and implementing long-term plans, anticipating challenges, and aligning program with organizational goals.
- Experience with developing and implementing health promotion and prevention coalitions and community collaborative partnerships
- Experience working with the public and good communication skills necessary.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for internal reporting team coordination and interactions with executive leadership
- Excellent written and oral English skills coupled with expert grammatical and proofreading skills applied in a scientific and research development environment.
- Able to lead coach and develop staff effectively providing mentorship and guidance to junior and senior staff.
- Experience with grant-writing literature review and data analyses.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment required.
- Must have supervisory experience.
- High level proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Adobe and scientific software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with developing and implementing health promotion and/or injury prevention activities in hospital and community settings.
- Experience with public presentation
Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
