The Department of Periodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) School of Dentistry advances oral health through education, research, patient care, and leadership. As part of Virginia’s only dental school—founded in 1893 and affiliated with an academic medical center—it contributes to a long tradition of excellence in dental education and health sciences.

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics is seeking a Part-Time Clinical Research Assistant to support ongoing clinical research activities for a 6-month appointment. This position will assist with the coordination of patient-based research studies, with responsibilities focused on participant management, study scheduling, follow-up communication, informed consent support, and maintenance of research records.

The Clinical Research Assistant will work closely with the principal investigator and research team to facilitate day-to-day study operations and support the timely completion of study-related activities in accordance with approved protocols and institutional requirements.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with participant recruitment, screening, and enrollment for clinical research studies
  • Coordinate patient scheduling for study visits and follow-up appointments
  • Contact participants by phone and/or email for appointment reminders, follow-up communication, and study retention efforts
  • Support the informed consent process under investigator supervision and in accordance with study procedures
  • Maintain accurate research records, study logs, participant tracking documents, and regulatory/study-related files
  • Assist with study organization, data collection support, and general research workflow coordination
  • Communicate effectively with participants, investigators, and other study personnel regarding scheduling and study needs
  • Help ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with institutional policies, approved protocols, and study timelines
  • Perform additional research coordination and administrative tasks as needed to support study operations

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
