Duties & Responsibilities:

The selected candidate for this entry-level position will support pre- and post-award administration within the SOM Office of Research Administration (SOMRA).  This position provides an opportunity to use administrative skills in a fast-paced environment while contributing to the success of the VCU School of Medicine’s research enterprise.  The position will also present opportunities for career growth in the field of research administration for those presenting a willingness and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

The Assistant Research Administrator will carry out a variety of supporting tasks within the SOM Office of Research Administration, to include:

  • Creating and updating reports to aid in the management of grant funds
  • Distributing routine reporting to research administrators and departments (monthly, quarterly, etc.)
  • Compiling and updating investigator other support documents
  • Fielding inquiries received through the SOMRA shared inbox
  • Learning and performing basic pre- and post-award research administration tasks

This position is eligible for hybrid telework.

The SOM Office of Research Administration’s mission is to support research and scholarly activity by working as a strategic partner with faculty, departments, university, and health system offices to ensure sound administrative and financial management of research.  We are a shared services office supporting both the School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry in the submission of grant proposals and the post-award management of grant and contract funding.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in an administrative role.
  • Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Apps (Forms, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) with the ability to learn new systems or software applications with ease.
  • Basic ability to interpret and calculate data.
  • Basic ability to draft and edit professional documents.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently using available resources.
  • Initiative to pro-actively ask questions and seek guidance when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an administrative/office position.
  • Proficiency using a number of university-specific programs including Banner, RAMS-SPOT, etc.

Salary Range: $43,000 - $52,000

Employer Development Coordinator

Under the direction of the Employer Development Manager, the Employer Development Coordinator will manage the recruitment database, coordinate the review/approval of new employers seeking to engage with VCU, and assist in developing and leading on-campus recruitment planning with particular emphasis on student-employer engagement. They will steward relationships with employers to increase recruiting opportunities and outcomes for students, facilitate organizational visits related to employment and experiential opportunities, and evaluate employer needs to best refer them for engagement opportunities.
