VCUarts Costume Coordinator - Department of Theatre

School of the Arts

Purpose: To assist with the general upkeep of the costume shop, daily operations and support of VCU Theatre Productions. Will keep a set schedule of about 20 to 29 hrs a week in the Theatre Department Costume Shop, W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. 

Description of Duties and responsibilities 

● Assist with general upkeep and cleanliness of the costume shop 

● Assist with enforcing safety compliance protocols for equipment and materials in the costume shop 

● Restocking and gaining familiarity with costume stock, including maintaining the cleanliness of the costume stock 

● Facilitating rentals of costume stock and tracking those rentals 

● Assisting the costume shop manager with any tasks needed 

● Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds 

● Assist with the mentorship of students in the costume shop 

● Supporting VCU Theatre productions by collaborating with faculty designers, students, shop managers and technical staff to construct, alter, and fit garments for theatre productions

●Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
