Department: Office of the Univ Registrar

Department Summary:

The University Domicile Appeals Coordinator accurately determines the domicile status of students at VCU, assists the
university admissions offices, and the University Appeals Committee for Domicile. Responsibilities include but are
not limited to: reviewing applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for in-state educational
privileges; counseling applicants, students, and other university officials regarding domicile requirements; providing
training for FERPA, Banner, Domicile, and other Registrar’s Office processes to the University community; assisting
with records processing, maintaining university files of Domicile applications and related documentation, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Serves as the University Domicile Appeals Coordinator: (30%)

  • Reviews applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for in-state educational privileges (reduced tuition charges) according to Section 23-7.4 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Notifies students and appropriate officials of decisions in reference to Domicile status.
  • Enters decisions into the University Student Information System and records them in Change of Domicile Log.

Counsels students and other university officials regarding Domicile requirements: (20%)

  • Answers questions from students and colleagues pertaining to State of Virginia requirements for in-state tuition eligibility.
  • Make available in-state tuition forms and advise on completion of forms and documentation required.

Document maintenance: (15%)

  • Maintains university files of Domicile applications and related documentation
  • Forwards all files and documentation to Chairperson of Domicile Appeals Committee for applicants desiring to appeal domicile decisions, and to University Counsel for cases to be heard in Richmond Circuit Court.
  • Represents the Office of the University Registrar in court if needed.

Coordinates the Domicile Appeals Hearing (15%)

  • Creation and maintenance of all Domicile appeals files
  • Scheduling of appeals hearings; selection and compensation of a court reporter for hearings.
  • Communication with students, committee members, and staff about hearing details and results.

Assists with Records Processing (10%)

  • Maintains Historic Repeat file and places historical repeats on student records as needed.
  • Assists with processing suspended student records.
  • Adjusts readmitted students’ academic standings as needed.

Assists with Training and Outreach ( 5%)

  • Provides training for FERPA, Banner, Domicile, and other Registrar’s Office processes to the university community as needed 
  • Correctly answers inquiries from students, faculty, and the University community concerning enrollment related information by referring to appropriate policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned: (5%)

  • Assists with other Registrar’s Office projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Other Position Details:

  • This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, up to 40% remote work.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent reasoning and communication skills.  Ability to maintain positive interactions with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information on government documents presented by students for domicile determination.
  • Ability to learn and apply Code of Virginia domicile regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in an Admissions or Records and Registration area; preferably in a position requiring knowledge of the Code of Virginia domicile regulations.

Salary Range: Up to $48,000

Veterinary Assistant

The primary role of this position is to provide clinical, technical, and administrative support to the veterinary care program of the Division of Animal Resources (DAR). This position plays a critical role in assisting with the smooth operation of the veterinary services. . The candidate will work directly with the staff veterinarians and veterinary technicians, provide restraint of laboratory animals for physical examinations, assist with advanced diagnostic procedures, such as radiology and diagnostic specimen collection. Additional responsibilities include supporting hands-on training classes, administering medications and providing surgical support as needed. The candidate must be able to recognize signs of disease and distress in a wide variety of species and report health conditions or behavior. The candidate will assist technicians managing delegated DAR-maintained spaces, such as the surgical suites, procedural/training spaces, and equipment, including responsibilities like scheduling, cleaning, restocking and maintenance of equipment. Administrative duties include maintaining the veterinary services calendar, scheduling training programs, recordkeeping, billing, data entry, and direct communication with researchers for scheduling, training, or compliance issues. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, along with a basic understanding of animal research. In return, the department will provide training in all required techniques and offer a supportive working environment.While the duties are performed primarily during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, the candidate will also participate in a rotating University holiday schedule, assigned in advance.

Animal Care Technician

Animal Care Technicians are responsible for cleaning of a variety of soiled animal cages and racks. The incumbent will clean, disinfect and sterilize animal cages using the guidelines established by the regulatory authorities and the Division. The responsibilities of the position will be for the health, care and husbandry of animals under the direct care of the incumbent. You will be responsible for assigned animals, which each animal will be cared for humanely, following the guidelines established by the national regulatory agencies and the Division of Animal Resources.The incumbent must observe animals daily for sickness or signs of distress and immediately report any of these conditions to the reporting supervisor or the clinical veterinarian. Additionally, must perform daily inspections of the animal rooms for repairs and environmental needs and supply requirements. Must be familiar with disease control procedures and be able to handle animals accordingly; be able to perform weekly or as needed, cleaning assignments for areas outside of vivarium; be able to work with little or no supervision once trained on assigned tasks. Annual safety requirements will be completed to include; fit testing, TB testing and drug screening. Training will be given on how to dump soiled bedding into appropriate containers, and disposing of bags of soiled bedding. Loading the cages into cage wash equipment, and unloading and stacking the clean cages. Transporting the cages to cage preparation areas. The VCU, Division of Animal Resources maintains and checks on the research animals 365 days a year. The Animal Care Tech position is a Monday-Friday position, however some weekend and holiday work is required.
