Dr. Dina García in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the VCU School of Public Health is
seeking applicants for a part-time, grant-funded Research Assistant position to support public health research
activities. The Research Assistant will primarily support research coordination, data management, and
administrative tasks for ongoing studies focused on health inequities and population health.


This position requires speaking in English and Spanish, strong organizational skills, attention
to detail, and an interest in public health research. This position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks,
maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with a research team.


Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research project coordination and study administration.
  • Maintain research databases, tracking systems, and study documentation.
  • Perform data entry, data cleaning, organization, and quality assurance activities.
  • Assist with management of quantitative and qualitative research data.
  • Support literature reviews and synthesis of research findings.
  • Prepare project materials, reports, presentations, and other research products.
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance documentation, including IRB-related materials.
  • Support scheduling and coordination of research team activities.
  • Maintain confidential research records in accordance with university and funding agency requirements.
  • Assist with manuscript preparation, conference submissions, and dissemination activities as needed.
  • Follow all research ethics, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or current enrollment with coursework in Public Health, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field. 
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team. 
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current graduate student in public health, social sciences, behavioral sciences, or a related field. 
  • Experience with data management, data entry, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with IRB requirements and research ethics.
  • Experience with REDCap or other research data management platforms.
  • Experience with qualitative data management software (e.g., MAXQDA, NVivo, Dedoose) and/or quantitative
    analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, Stata).

Salary Range: $25/hr
