Duties & Responsibilities:

Mission or goal of unit: The mission of the VCU Division of Cardiothoracic surgery is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic’s most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe cardiothoracic services, as well as to create the finest training environment for the region’s future cardiothoracic specialists. The current environment increasingly mandates leading both regional and national quality initiatives in cardiothoracic surgery. The division is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty staff and students.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal: This is a per-diem position to serve as surgeon proctor for the Lung Transplant program. The ideal candidate should be a master surgeon with unique skills in lung transplantation.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Teaching:  Faculty member will be proctoring faculty surgeons in lung transplant. No resident teaching responsibility.
  2. Research: No research expectation.
  3. Service: Faculty member will not have any committee responsibilities.
  4. Other: Administrative duties as needed to proctor lung transplant.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery
  • Virginia state licensure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence
  • Ability to function in a complex matrixed environment
  • Effective skills in managing conflict
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, education and clinical research
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

  • Unique area of expertise that will enhance divisional and institutional reputation
