Core Responsibilities:

  • Performs quantitative analyses of brain scans, which requires proficiency in neuroanatomy.
  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data and behavioral/cognitive testing.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Presents timely research data at lab meetings.
  • Contributes research data to publications, grant submissions, and conference presentations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

  • Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.
  • Expertise in neuroanatomy and the quantitative analyses of brain scans (magnetic resonance imaging).
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member, and to communicate effectively with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and to foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in biology, animal science, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or related disciplines.

Salary Range: $18.00 - $20.00

FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hours per Week: Not to exceed 29.

This position is open until filled.

This is a restricted position with no set end date. Continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
