Department Summary:

Deliver high quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to patients focusing on the care of seniors; prepare trainees for safe and competent independent practice, engage in scholarship (including with trainees) and provide service to the Department, Health System and/or community. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide clinical geropsychiatry services to patients referred to VCU Health System. Assist in the development of a program focused on older adults with psychiatric disorders. Provide teaching, supervision and mentorship to residents/fellows/medical students. Participate in scholarly projects with trainees. Participate on committees, task forces and/or executive boards in service to the Department, Health System, University and/or community.

  1. Clinical - Provide geropsychiatric and other clinical services to patients within the Department of Psychiatry’s ambulatory clinic (primary responsibility) and inpatient unit (providing coverage). This position may also rotate at VCU Health’s ambulatory sites in the community, such as VCU-Williamsburg, and provide tele-psychiatry services. 
  2. Teaching - Provide training (teaching, supervision, scholarship and mentorship) to residents/medical students/fellows. 
  3. Service – Attend weekly Department Grand Rounds, participate in CME and professional development, and engage in “good citizenship” and other service activities assigned by division and department.
  4. Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) - Documentation requirements and in-service completion as required for compliance with regulations and practice standards. 

Qualifications:

Required 

  • Virginia Licensed or eligible, BC/BE Psychiatrist with interest in working primarily in an outpatient psychiatry setting and with trainees
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred 

  • Board Certification in Geropsychiatry
  • Experience in teaching residents and medical students
  • Overall experience of 3-5 years as a practicing psychiatrist preferred
