Department Summary: The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of faculty members and staff members spanning nine divisions which includes representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians. The Department of Neurology’s vision is to provide the best patient-centered neurological care while fostering the career development, education and training of our team members.

Mission of the Unit:

The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and our community.

 

Chief Purpose of This Position In Support of Above Mission:

The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time clinical faculty member with training in Neuropsychology to join our expanding clinical and research enterprises. Successful candidates will have a PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology/neuropsychology and will be BC/BE in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. Candidates will also have completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology. Academic appointment will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

1. Teaching
Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will be expected to participate in a series of formal conferences for the housestaff and students. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.

2. Research
The Division of Movement Disorders is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical research and clinical trials.

3. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

4. Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or PsyD in clinical psychology/neuropsychology
  • BC/BE in clinical neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology
  • Completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty at VCU.
