The position serves as a liaison between the business unit and IT development group to evaluate clinical and business system needs and provide information analytics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Clinical Business Intelligence Analyst responsibilities serve two main objectives: Business Process Modeling and Implementation which may include acting as a documentarian, co-facilitator, facilitator or subject matter expert in sketch sessions; conducting preliminary investigation for all project requests by reviewing requirements, specifications, test, support and training plans to ensure they are in line with business objectives on projects, building datasets, creating ETL processes, constructing dashboards, and developing process improvement workflows. They work under limited supervision, making complex decisions independently and referring unprecedented issues to an upper-level manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include managing multiple tasks independently daily, including:

● Design, develop, and distribute database-driven reports and visualizations that support academic, administrative, research, and clinical business processes using SQL, Crystal Reports, Tableau, PowerBI, and Excel while ensuring data integrity and safety by following appropriate data classification and security best practices.

● Manage, combine, integrate, and analyze data from multiple data sources, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, APIs, and cloud-based resources.

● Design, develop, feed, and maintain data structures, reporting systems, data automation processes, dashboards, and performance metrics to inform critical business decisions and stakeholders.

● Work closely with senior leadership, clinical providers and staff, electronic health record and clinical systems analysts, and application development staff to evaluate business requirements and advise on appropriate informative views and dashboards.

● Serve as our organization’s honest broker for the IRB and document data flows, data sources, and/or feeds for all data integration projects.

● Assist with selecting, evaluating, building, and maintaining a data warehouse platform and provide expert support for the implementation and optimization of a cloud data lake or warehouse.

● Assist with EHR training and level one and level two clinical systems support tickets.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree required

● Working experience in Higher Education or a Healthcare Environment

● Hands-on experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server

● Experience with Tableau or PowerBI dashboarding and visualization applications

● Experience and understanding of AWS, Snowflake, or Google Cloud Platform

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

● Superior interpersonal and decision-making skills

● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

● Ability to document business processes and operational workflows

● Excellent customer service

● Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

● Master’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent training and experience

● Knowledge of University systems, policies, and procedures

● Knowledge of VCU Information Security Baselines and computer standards

● Familiarity with Learning Management System platforms (Canvas)

 

Salary Range: Commensurate, up to $85,000
