Department: Transfer Center

Department Summary: The Assistant Director of Transfer Center Operations plays a crucial role in managing: 1) the processing of transfer credits for all undergraduate students and 2) the advising of prospective transfer students at Virginia Commonwealth University. By managing the operations and advising of prospective transfer students, the Assistant Director will: ensure strict adherence to university and state transfer policies; manage the accurate processing of transfer credits for all undergraduate students; oversee transfer advising services for prospective students; and serve as the VCU portal manager for Transfer Virginia.

Core Responsibilities: 

Manage the operations and advising services of the Transfer Center (40%)

  • Oversee the evaluation and processing of transfer credits for incoming and continuing undergraduate students.
  • Manage the process for advising prospective transfer students.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to support transfer recruitment activities.
  • Provide transfer advising services to prospective students.
  • Provide advising support to the Amazon Career Choice program and other corporate academic partnerships. 

 Supervise Transfer Center staff (25%)

  • Recruit and select new transfer advising staff members
  • Plan and implement training activities for new and continuing staff members.
  • Assign regular and special work responsibilities to each staff member.
  • Evaluate job performance.
  • Support staff career development.

Manage special projects related to transfer initiatives (25%)

  • Serve as VCU portal manager for Transfer Virginia.
  • Manage implementation of technological tools related to transfer credit processing and transfer advising services (Smart Panda, etc.).
  • Update Transfer Center website.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Academic Affairs to facilitate high school dual enrollment operations
  • Manage the process for VCU students taking courses at another institution.

Other duties (10%)

  • Assist with other Transfer Center initiatives as needed. 
  • Assist with division initiatives as needed. 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience or training
  • Two years of experience working with college students in a college or university setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, provide clear direction, and establish efficient priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate with others on projects.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, including presentations and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field.
  • Experience working with transfer students.
  • Knowledge of VCU and VCU’s admission policies.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, Slate, and/or SmartPanda/Raptor.
  • Familiarity with high school dual enrollment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Supervisory experience.

Other Position Details: This position allows for a hybrid work schedule and has occasional evening and weekend responsibilities. 

Salary Range:  $63,000 - $67,000
