The Business Essentials Unit in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting a pool of applicants for adjunct faculty positions on an ongoing basis. Should funding for such adjunct teaching positions become available, Business Essentials will contact persons in the pool whose credentials match our teaching needs. This pool will be accessed only when an opening arises. Note that we are unable to hire applicants who are not already in the pool.

BUSN 325: Business Communications The course equips students with business communication skills for diverse formats, audiences, and contexts. Through real-world applications, students will refine their written, oral, and digital communication, developing the ability to inform, persuade, and inspire. Key topics include business writing, data storytelling, visual and nonverbal communication, pitching ideas, and delivering professional presentations. Emphasis is placed on clarity, tone, audience analysis, and ethical use of communication tools to build confidence and professionalism in dynamic business environments.

BUSN 329: Introduction to Intercultural Communication The course entails an introduction to the basic concepts, principles and skills for improving verbal and nonverbal communication with persons from different cultures. Using a cultural general approach, topics discussed include the concept of culture, barriers to intercultural communication, verbal communication process and nonverbal communication aspects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

As an Adjunct Instructor in the Business Essentials Unit in the School of Business, you will help support the School of Business strategic plan by providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Instructors will be expected to hold regular office hours.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business or related field

  • Teaching experience 

  • 5+ years of work in business or relevant experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business experience

  • Higher education teaching experience

  • Experience with Canvas or another learning management system
