Duties and Responsibilities:

The School of Life Sciences and Sustainability (SLSS) in the College of Humanities and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting a pool of applicants for the Spring 2026 semester and beyond for possible adjunct teaching positions. The School of Life Sciences and Sustainability houses programs in Biology, Environmental Studies, Bioinformatics, Sustainable Innovation, Outdoor Leadership, and Integrative Life Sciences. The School of Life Sciences and Sustainability (SLSS) seeks qualified instructors to contribute teaching across these topics.

Applicants admitted to the adjunct pool will be contacted if their credentials align with our teaching needs in a given semester. This pool will be accessed only when an opening arises. Your credentials will remain active for one year from the date of this posting. After that time, if you are still interested in adjunct teaching, you must reapply. Please note that we are unable to hire applicants who are not already in the pool.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Biology, Environmental Science/Studies, Sustainability, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution of higher education.

Salary Range: $1,437 per credit hour

FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
