Position Summary: Student Success’ University Academic Advising (UAA) team empowers students to achieve their academic goals by providing academic advising and first year success course instruction to students. Each advisor is assigned a caseload of students that they are required to meet with at least once per semester. As a whole, VCU’s academic advisors support 22,000 undergraduate students in 21 distinct advising units. The Student Success UAA unit has the following academic advising teams: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Pre-health and Sciences, Business, Engineering, and Social Work, and Undeclared. Student Success’ UAA unit is searching for up to 2 advisors that will join either one of these teams or serve as a floater to move between these teams.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Advising (60%):
Teaching (15%): Advisors may be called upon to plan and instruct assigned UNIV 101, 103, and/or 191 Student Success courses to provide effective and informative best practices, resources, and tools available to assist and support students’ academic success throughout their college careers. Introduce new students to the traditions, purposes, and expectations of a university education.
Tasks:
Administrative Work (10%):
Prepare for advising appointments, maintain accurate records of advising interactions, and complete various tasks for Student Success initiatives and students’ needs.
Tasks:
Recruitment, Orientation, and Collaboration (10%): Collaborate and participate in various activities with department, unit, and university partners to enhance UAA’s approach and impact on student recruitment, orientation, and success in order to meet the goals of the University.

Salary Range: $51,120
