Description of the job:

The VCUarts Department of Art Education is seeking Assistant Teachers for the Creative Arts Day Camp for children rising into grades K-9.  Each camp session (week) will have one Assistant Teacher to provide mentorship to CADC volunteers and assistance to Lead Teachers. Assistant Teachers will also serve as a substitute teacher in the case of a Lead Teacher absence. Ideal candidates for the Assistant Teacher Position are Art Education students who may not have as much experience in the classroom, but have completed ARTE 310 and/or ARTE 311, and are excited to learn from other teachers! They are to communicate with the Lead Teacher on their classroom expectations and how to engage with students. At the end of each week, Assistant Teachers are responsible for restoring CADC classrooms and workspaces to their original state. Assistant Teachers are Tier 2 individuals (see Compliance Training). 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Actively pursuing or recently obtained K-12 Art Education licensure. 

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Salary - Pay is $800/week session - including course planning, orientation, and clean up.
