Mission or Goal of Unit: The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to delivering the best possible pediatric anesthetic and critical care to our pediatric patients, to advancing research and quality improvement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and training the next generation of anesthesiologists through our residency and fellowship programs along with medical student teaching.
Chief Purpose of this position: Provide care to patients at our Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHOR) at VCU as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair’s delegate. This includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and intensive care, therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultation in cases of chronic pain. Directs the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned by Chair or Chair’s delegate
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching:
Provides “bedside:” clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates in the didactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attends conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by Chair.
Research:
May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently but within the guidelines of the Institution and Department. Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area of specialization.
Service:
May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University or VCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined via individual interest. the Department stresses the importance of being a good citizen of the institution and fosters community service at all levels.
Clinical:
Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by Department Chair or delegate including main OR and ambulatory areas. May supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate. Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center.
