Department: Psychiatry

Mission or Goal of Unit:

Deliver high quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to patients; prepare trainees for safe and competent independent practice, engage in scholarship (including with trainees) and provide service to the Department, Health System and/or community. 

Chief Purpose of this position: 

Provide clinical psychiatry services to patients referred to VCU Health System. Provide teaching, supervision and mentorship to residents/fellows/medical students. Participate in scholarly projects with trainees. Participate on committees, task forces and/or executive boards in service to the Department, Health System, University and/or community.

Position Responsibilities: 

Clinical - Provide psychiatric clinical services to patients within the Department of Psychiatry’s inpatient unit, provide neuromodulation services, and emergency room coverage. This position may also provide services at VCU Health’s ambulatory sites in the community, provide consult services to our community partners, and provide tele-psychiatry services. 

Teaching - Provide training (teaching, supervision, scholarship and mentorship) to residents/medical students/fellows.

Service – Attend weekly Department Grand Rounds, participate in CME and professional development, and engage in “good citizenship” and other service activities assigned by division and department.

Other - Documentation requirements and in-service completion as required for compliance with regulations and practice standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Virginia Licensed or eligible, BC/BE Psychiatrist with interest in working primarily in an inpatient psychiatry setting and with trainees.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching residents and medical students.
  • Overall experience of 3-5 years as a practicing psychiatrist.
