The Information Systems Department

The Department of Information Systems brings together scholars with expertise in artificial intelligence, analytics, digital technologies, healthcare delivery, information credibility, cybersecurity and related fields. Faculty share a commitment to rigorous, relevant scholarship, meaningful mentorship, intellectual generosity and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The School's Human-AI ColLab provides a powerful platform for this work, supporting research on how people, organizations, information systems and artificial intelligence interact. The ColLab enables scholars to launch new research initiatives, engage students, build external partnerships and advance human-centered, responsible AI.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will maintain an internationally recognized research program, produce impactful scholarship, secure external funding and provide intellectual leadership in transdisciplinary research involving artificial intelligence, digital technologies and healthcare systems and markets.

The role offers opportunities to shape the School’s strategic research agenda, develop cross-campus initiatives and expand research partnerships. The candidate will build collaborations across the School of Business, VCU Health and other university units; mentor junior faculty and doctoral students; teach information systems courses; contribute to curriculum development; and provide academic and professional service.

Through research, collaboration and leadership, the successful candidate will contribute substantially to the School’s national and international academic reputation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• A Ph.D. and an internationally recognized research program in information systems that integrates artificial intelligence and advanced analytics within healthcare systems;
• A record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals appropriate to the candidate’s career stage; and
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with faculty, staff and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to doing so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• A record of pursuing or securing external research funding, or demonstrated potential to do so;
• Evidence of excellence or strong potential in teaching, mentoring, academic leadership and professional service;
• Demonstrated success or strong potential in collaborative transdisciplinary research;
• Established or emerging partnerships with healthcare organizations, public agencies, community organizations or industry;
• The ability to work productively in a collaborative and transdisciplinary academic environment
