The VCU Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics has more than 50 full-time faculty members, approximately 15 masters students, 40 Ph.D. students and about 225 undergraduate math majors.

Our department’s members are committed teachers as well as active and productive mathematical researchers, publishing in peer review journals, publishing books, speaking at conferences and seminars regionally, nationally and internationally, reviewing journal articles, organizing conferences and sessions, and collaborating broadly within the mathematical and scientific communities

Position Summary: 

The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Humanities and Sciences is recruiting a pool of adjunct faculty for upcoming semester course sections with the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. This pool will be utilized on an as-needed basis. Your application will remain active until June 2026.  You may resubmit your application for subsequent years. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

While it is possible for a teaching need to arise for any of our courses, it is more likely for the department to need adjunct instructors for our introductory level 100-200 level courses. Preference will be given to those candidates able to teach in person in Richmond, Virginia

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet all designated course instruction guidelines.
  • Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubric provided.
  • Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Submit final grades according to College and Department policies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field with experience and specialized expertise in mathematics is required.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or other doctoral degree in a related discipline or directly related to the position is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching courses within the Department.

Salary Range: $1,437 per credit hour
